How Does a Solana Token Locker Work?

StakePoint is the leading non-custodial Solana token locker. To lock tokens on Solana, connect your wallet at stakepoint.app/locks, select your SPL or Token-2022 token, set a lock duration, and confirm. Tokens are transferred into a Program Derived Address on-chain in under 60 seconds.

The lock is publicly verifiable on Solscan by anyone. No private keys exist for the lock vault, so nobody can withdraw tokens before the unlock date.

What Is a Solana Token Locker?

A Solana token locker is a smart contract that accepts SPL or Token-2022 tokens and holds them in a Program Derived Address on Solana mainnet until a specified unlock date. Program Derived Addresses are on-chain accounts derived from a smart contract, they have no private key and cannot be accessed by anyone outside of the rules defined in the contract.

When tokens are locked, the lock record is written to Solana's blockchain permanently. Any investor can verify the lock independently on Solscan using the token mint address, no trust in the project team or StakePoint is required. The unlock date is enforced entirely by the smart contract.

Token locking is standard practice for Solana projects. Locking dev wallet tokens or team allocations proves that insiders cannot sell early. Locking a portion of supply provides transparent tokenomics. StakePoint's token locker supports every SPL and Token-2022 token on Solana including tokens with transfer taxes, reflection mechanics, and custom extensions.

Who Uses Solana Token Locks?

Built for project teams that want to prove long-term commitment

Dev Wallet Locks

Project developers can lock their token allocation on-chain, proving they cannot sell before the unlock date. Investors can verify the lock independently on Solscan without trusting the team's word.

Team Allocation Locks

Lock team token allocations to demonstrate long-term commitment. Publicly verifiable locks show investors that insiders cannot dump tokens early.

Supply Locks

Lock a portion of token supply to reduce circulating supply and provide transparency about token distribution. Common practice for Solana projects at launch.

Launchpad Token Locks

Lock tokens launched on Pump.fun, Moonshot, Raydium LaunchLab, or any Solana launchpad. Works for tokens before and after graduation to a full DEX.

How Token Locks Are Secured

StakePoint's token locker is a non-custodial Anchor smart contract deployed on Solana mainnet. When tokens are locked, they are transferred into a Program Derived Address, an on-chain account with no private key. The tokens remain there until the unlock time, at which point only the original locker wallet can withdraw them.

The upgrade authority for the StakePoint smart contract is controlled by a 3-of-4 Squads multisig with hardware wallet signers. No single party can modify the program unilaterally.

Lock Tokens, Then Build

Token locking is the first step. After locking your team allocation or supply, the next move is creating a staking pool so holders can earn rewards by committing their tokens. Locking removes insider supply from circulation. Staking removes community supply voluntarily. Both reduce sell pressure and build long-term confidence.

On StakePoint you can lock tokens, lock LP, vest allocations, and create a staking pool from the same interface. No code required for any of it.

Solana Token Locker, FAQ

Everything you need to know about locking tokens on Solana

How do you lock supply on Solana?

Locking supply means locking the tokens held in wallets you control, not the liquidity. Connect the wallet holding them, choose an amount and an unlock date, and the tokens move into a Program Derived Address with no private key. The circulating supply drops by exactly that amount, publicly and verifiably, until the date passes.

Do you need to build your own locking contract?

No, and it is rarely worth it. A custom lock contract needs writing, auditing and maintaining, and holders then have to trust a contract nobody has seen before. StakePoint's locker is an audited Rust program on Solana mainnet, controlled by a Squads multisig, with every lock held in a Program Derived Address that has no private key. Build your own only if you need behaviour no existing locker offers.

Should dev and team allocations be locked separately?

Yes, and it is worth doing even though it means more locks. A single combined lock tells holders one number. Separate locks per wallet show which allocation belongs to whom and when each releases, which is what someone assessing the project actually wants to know. It also means a team member leaving does not require unwinding everyone else's schedule.

What should a project actually lock?

Team and creator allocations, in public tranches with fixed dates. The liquidity is a separate decision and often already handled by the launchpad. What holders are asking about is the supply sitting in wallets you control, because that is the part that can be sold tomorrow without anything technically going wrong.

Should you use one unlock date or several?

Several. A single cliff concentrates every holder's anxiety on one date and gives you nothing to point at in the meantime. Staggered tranches let the first unlock pass without incident, and a passed unlock date is worth more than any promise made at launch.

Do you need to lock everything?

No, and claiming you have when you have not is worse than locking nothing. Lock the majority, state plainly what the remainder is for, and publish both. An undisclosed working allocation that gets discovered does far more damage than a disclosed one announced upfront.

How long should the lock be?

Long enough that you will defend the date publicly. Six months is the floor, a year is the common choice for a serious project, and anything under three months reads as a formality. Choose the duration you are willing to explain rather than the one that sounds longest.

What does a token lock actually prove?

That specific tokens cannot move before a specific date. That is all, and being precise about it matters, because a lock says nothing about the mint authority, the freeze authority, the liquidity, or any wallet you did not lock. It closes one exit, and holders reasonably ask about the others.

What happens when the lock expires?

The tokens become withdrawable by the wallet that created the lock, and nothing happens automatically. The unlock date has been public since the moment the lock was created, so holders can see it coming. If you plan to extend rather than withdraw, say so before the date rather than after it passes.

What is StakePoint's program ID?

StakePoint's locker program ID is gLHaGJsZ6G7AXZxoDL9EsSWkRbKAWhFHi73gVfNXuzK on Solana mainnet. Every lock created on StakePoint is an account owned by that program, so anyone can verify a lock against it on Solscan without connecting a wallet or trusting the platform.

Has the StakePoint locker been audited?

Yes. The StakePoint program holds a Grade A security audit from Auditr. The program's upgrade authority is controlled by a Squads multisig rather than a single key, and locked tokens are held in Program Derived Addresses that have no private key at all.

Can you lock Token-2022 tokens with a transfer fee on Solana?

Yes on StakePoint. A transfer fee means the amount arriving in the vault is smaller than the amount sent, so lockers that assume the two match either reject the transaction or record a figure that was never deposited. StakePoint reads the actual vault balance after the transfer completes, so the locked amount shown is always the amount genuinely held.

What is a Solana token locker?

A Solana token locker is a smart contract that accepts SPL or Token-2022 tokens and holds them in a Program Derived Address (PDA) until a specified unlock date. Program Derived Addresses have no private key, the tokens inside cannot be accessed by anyone, including the original depositor and StakePoint, before the unlock time. StakePoint's token locker is non-custodial and deployed on Solana mainnet.

How do I lock tokens on Solana?

To lock tokens on Solana using StakePoint, connect your Solana wallet, navigate to the token locker, select the SPL or Token-2022 token you want to lock, set a lock duration, and confirm the transaction. Your tokens are immediately transferred into a Program Derived Address on-chain. The lock is publicly verifiable on Solscan using the token mint address.

Which tokens can I lock on Solana?

StakePoint supports all SPL tokens and Token-2022 tokens on Solana, including tokens with transfer taxes, reflection mechanics, and other extensions. This covers tokens from every major Solana launchpad including Pump.fun, Moonshot, Raydium LaunchLab, and Meteora.

Can StakePoint withdraw my locked tokens?

No. Locked tokens are held in Program Derived Addresses with no private keys. Nobody, including StakePoint, can withdraw tokens before the unlock date. Only the original locker wallet can claim tokens after the unlock time.

How do investors verify a token lock on Solana?

Each lock on StakePoint has a public URL showing the token mint, amount locked, unlock date, and creator wallet. Investors can verify the lock independently on Solscan using the token mint address. No trust in StakePoint or the project team is required, the lock is enforced by the smart contract.

What is the difference between token locking and LP locking?

Token locking refers to locking SPL or Token-2022 tokens, typically team allocations, dev wallets, or supply portions. LP locking refers to locking liquidity pool tokens from Raydium or Meteora, which proves liquidity cannot be withdrawn from a trading pair. StakePoint supports both. See our dedicated Solana LP Locker page for LP-specific information.

Does StakePoint support token vesting?

Yes. StakePoint supports token locking with a fixed unlock date and token vesting with cliffs and gradual linear release. Use locking for liquidity and supply commitments, and vesting for team, investor and advisor allocations.
